This mountain trekking adventure takes you to Africa’s most challenging mountain range with six major peaks, where the highest in the Mount Stanley complex is called Margherita peak (5,109). This Uganda Safari mountain hiking adventure offers you memorable experiences of fantastic attractions such as Snow capped peaks and five different Vegetation Zones, a wide variety of large mammals on the lower slopes including elephants, buffaloes, chimpanzees, blue monkeys, Rwenzori colobus monkeys, duikers, forest hogs, hyrax and leopards and over 200 bird species recorded in the park of which 19 are endemic to the mountain including the Rwenzori Turaco, Francolins, Olive Pigeon, White Necked Raven and Mountain Buzzards.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Kampala to Ibanda: Starting Point, Central Circuit
After an early morning breakfast embark on a 7-8 hour drive to Ibanda, lunch en-route, where you will get your equipments and supplies ready. Check in at Tour holiday Inn (FB) for dinner and a serene overnight.
Day 2: Ibanda to Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba Hut, 2,652m: (4-5 Hours)
You will have breakfast and drive to Nyakalengija for registration with Uganda Wildlife Authority, get briefed and make final preparations, ensuring that you have all the required supplies. Following the Mobuku River and crossing Mahoma River, you will enjoy the beautiful sound of various birds and tumbling rivers as you ascend through Bakonjo (Area Natives) settlements, farmlands, elephant grass, open bracken fern slopes and Podorcarpus Forest to Nyabitaba Hut. Expect sights or sounds of monkeys, the Rwenzori Turaco and chimpanzees. Dine and have a wonderful overnight at Nyabitaba Hut.
Day 3: From Nyabitaba Hut to John Matte Hut, 3,414m (5-6 Hours).
This is quite a challenging hike through a bamboo forest and a steep rocky area. Crossing the Kurt Shaffer Bridge and trailing through a muddy area along the Mobuku river, up to Nyamuleju Hut and proceeding through a bog full of typical plants along the Bujuku river, you will finally reach John Matte Hut (3,414m) to relax dine and spend the night. You will enjoy the impressive view of Mount Stanley and the beautiful snow capped Margherita and Elena Peaks while you relax at this point.
Day 4: From John Matte Hut to Bujuku Hut, 3,962m (4-5 Hours):
Cross the Bujuku River to enter the lower grassy Bigo bog and exercise jumping from tussock to tussock before reaching Bigo Hut. You will go through the upper Bigo bog to reach Lake Bujuku. Trek cautiously as you search for the giant lobelias and the Everlasting Flower (known to remain on the plants for 40-years). Trail through the scanty vegetation of the alpine savannah zone until you get to Bujuku Hut (3,962m). Relax as you take pleasure in the spectacular views of Mount Stanley, Mount Baker and Mount Speke peaks.
Day 5: From Bujuku Hut to Elena Hut, 4,541m:
You will steeply hike through moss draped groundsel vegetation between Mt. Baker and Stanley, to Scott Elliot Pass (4,372m), divert to Elena Hut (4,541m) to end your central circuit trek at this point where the Margherita (5,109m) peak hike begins. Enjoy your meals and overnight at Elena Hut (4,541m).
Day 6: Elena Hut to Margarita Peak and then to Kitandara Hut:
You will have to wake up before sunrise to start your final peak hike to the snow capped Margherita peak (5109m). Under favourable conditions, you will be at the peak by sunset. Enjoy scenic views and take pictures before you descend to the Kitandara Lakes. Enjoy meals and have a peaceful overnight at Kitandara Hut (4,023m).
Day 7: Kitandara Hut to Guy Yeoman Hut, 3,261m (5-6 Hours).
Descend through stunning views of the Congo and the alpine moss to the Bujongolo and Kabamba rock shelters and proceed to Guy Yeoman Hut (3,261m). Have your meals and overnight at Guy Yeoman Hut (3260m).
Day 8: Guy Yeoman Hut back to Nyakalengija and then to Fort Portal (5-6 Hours):
You will descent to Nyakalengija along the valley of the Mobuku and Kichuchu rivers. You will enjoy nice views of plants and flowers of the heather zone, the bamboo forest, Kabamba falls and Lake Mahoma. Our driver will then take you to Fort Portal for dinner and over night at Mountains of the moon Hotel.
Day 9: Depart For Kampala or to your next destination
