Detailed Itinerary for the Safari
DAY 1: LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK
The journey to South Western Uganda will start after your early morning breakfast at 8:00 am. After a couple hours’ drive from Kampala, you will stop at the equator to take some photographs. You will then proceed to Lake Mburo National Park where you will see different savannah wild animals and birds.
You will branch off the Kampala-Mbarara highway after a four hours’ drive to start enjoying an en route game-drive in Lake Mburo National Park. Marvel at the sight of herds of Zebra, eland antelopes, topis, impalas, sitatungas, bush duikers and Uganda cobs.
After checking in and having your lunch you can enjoy a boat ride amidst the sights and sounds of Hippos and Crocodiles in Lake Mburo among other aquatic creatures. These park attractions include various birds such as Fish Eagles, Crested Cranes, African King Fisher, Pelicans, herons, African Fin foot, and Bush Shrike; actually Lake Mburo is one of the best places to find such rare birds in the region.
You can also choose to continue your game exposure by embarking on an evening game drive or reserve your energy and enthusiasm for the early morning drive. Conclude your day visualising about the creative Power of the Almighty as you enjoy dinner at your Hotel before retiring to bed.
DAY 2: LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK & DRIVE TO BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK
Take breakfast and then embark on an early morning game drive to look out for Warthogs, Elands, Uganda Kob, Buffaloes and many birds. You will then drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to the mountain gorillas.
You will have lunch en route and as you head further south, get ready for the beautiful panoramas of the terraced hills of Kabale district. You will get to Bwindi in the afternoon. In the evening feel free to join the neighbouring community to be entertained with a traditional dance. Finish your day by having a delicious dinner and a wonderful night at your Hotel.
Day 3: Gorilla Tracking:
Have your breakfast early morning and get ready for briefing by your guides at 9:00 am. At the park headquarters, guides will brief you before setting off to the forest in search for the gorillas. The search for these apes is quite tiresome and depending on their movement on that particular day, this activity may take you up to 6 or 9 hours yet on a good day, you can find them in a couple of hours.
The trail involves climbing up and down through steep rocks. It is vital that you carry a packed lunch, drinking water and a rain jacket. The steep tracks are muddy in the rain season requiring that you wear comfortable boots or jungle shoes. If jungle sounds make you uncomfortable, put on ear plugs. You may also need walking sticks which will be provided by the park rangers.
Whatever the circumstances of the day, you will be delighted by the experience of the encounter with these endangered species and soon you will forget the strain of the search when you finally get fascinated at the sight of these giant primates. You will retire back to your Hotel for Dinner and a comfortable night as you ponder about these gifts of nature.
Day 4: 9 Hour drive to Queen Elizabeth NP
Wake up early and have breakfast as you prepare to start this journey that will see you through the unique western rift valley escarpment. You will enormously enjoy an en route game drive in Ishasha sector of the Queen Elizabeth Park as you search for tree climbing lions, varieties of monkeys, baboons as well as many species of plants and birds. You may also be welcomed by some other game like buffaloes, kobs, elephants, bushbucks, and the rare occasional leopard on your way to the Mweya Peninsular; the park headquarters. You will arrive in the evening and check in at your Lodge. After checking in, you will have some time to relax at the safari Lodge. Overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge or Jacana safari Lodge (FB).
Day 5: A game drive to see Lions, Hyenas, elephants, Bush bucks, buffallos, hippos, water bucks, the rare occasional leopard, varieties of monkeys and birds and a 6 Hour drive to Kampala:
The big cats can easily be seen on their active daily hunts very early in the morning. You therefore have to wake up at dawn (waking up with the birds as locally said). After enjoying an early morning cup of coffee/tea, you will embark on this morning drive through the Kasenyi plains and the Mweya peninsula to search for animals like, leopards, Buffaloes, elephants, Lions, Uganda Kobs, bushbucks, bush pigs, forest hogs, jackals and many more.
A launch cruise on the Kazinga channel is worth the time. While on this boat trip look out for game like Buffaloes, hippos, and many birds including the European migrant birds -the terns and gulls - that usually congregate here in large flocks.
You will have to retreat for lunch at your lodge before embarking on your journey back to Kampala. On your way to the city, make a stopover at the equator or at Mpambire drum village to buy a souvenir and proceed to have an evening entertainment and overnight at your Hotel in Kampala.
