9 Days Uganda Nature Safari, with Gorilla Trekking

This is great experience adventure tour that starts and ends in Kampala. It is a 9 days’ camping safari to Murchision falls, Kibale National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Gorilla Park.  Activities include game drives, chimpanzee tracking, forest walks, launch cruises, adventure-wilderness tours, gorilla tracking and local community visits.

Tour Highlights

Day 1: Kampala to Murchison Falls
A 7 hour drive to Murchison Falls National Park,
A stop for lunch in Masindi,
An en route game viewing of buffalos, hippos, elephants and Giraffes among others.
A stop at the falls where Africa’s longest river is forced through a narrow gap in the rock (only 7 meters wide).
Have Dinner and an overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge/ Sambiya River Lodge/Nile Safari camp/ Red Chili Camp Bandas.
Day 2: A full day Wildlife viewing at Murchison falls
Early morning game drive, Breakfast and Lunch at your lodge,
Afternoon Boat cruise to Bottom of the falls for lots of hippos, crocodiles, elephant, Giraffes, leopards,  hyenas, Oribis, Elephants, lions, Bushbucks and varieties of  birds.
Day 3:  A 9 hour drive from Murchison falls to Kibale national park
 Breakfast at your lodge/hotel in Murchison Falls NP,
Lunch en route most likely in Masindi,
En route beautiful scenery of traditional homesteads and farms,
An evening visit to the Royal palace of Toro.
 Dinner and overnight at Primate Lodge/ Mountains of the Moon Hotel.
Day 4: A full day Chimpanzee tracking and guided-village walk.
            Breakfast and lunch at your hotel
An evening tour to the crater lakes region
Dinner and overnight stay at Primate Lodge/ Mountains of the Moon Hotel.
Day 5: Morning drive to Queen Elizabeth National park.
Visit the Semuliki National Park,
Satisfy your eyes with the park’s fantastic scenery, hot springs, forest jungle walk, birding, primates viewing and River Semliki meanders,
Visit the Bambuti (pygmy) community,
Have a picnic lunch at the Sempaya hot springs,
Proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
The journey offers an en route fantastic view of the Rwenzori Mountain range,
Dinner and overnight stay at Mweya Safari lodge/Jacana Safari Lodge.
Day 6:  A full day with wild game and pleasurable nature views.
A boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel and a  game drive through the Kasenyi plains and the Mweya peninsula to see Lions, Hyenas, elephants, Bush bucks, buffallos, hippos, water bucks, the rare occasional leopard, varieties of monkeys and birds.
           
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner at your hotel.

Day 7:  9 Hour drive to Bwindi NP through the unique western rift valley escarpment including;
Chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura Wildlife Reserve,
En route game drive in the Ishasha section of Queen Elizabeth park featuring tree climbing lions, antelopes, elephants and lots of birds and flora.
Arrive in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight at Buhoma Community Bandas or Gorilla resort Camp.
Day 8: Gorilla tracking and an afternoon optional nature walk.
Gorrilla tracking time: 6-9 Hours in the jungle.

See varieties of monkeys, birds and flora as well.
An evening visit to the neighbouring community (optional)
Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 9: A 9 Hour drive to Kampala with lunch en route possibly in Mbarara.

Detailed Itinerary for the Safari

Day 1: Kampala to Murchison Falls National Park:
After an early morning breakfast, you will begin your journey to North West Uganda via the famous Luwero triangle and Masindi Town. You will have your lunch at Masindi Hotel and thereafter, proceed to Murchison Falls National Park. The en route game and panoramic views make your trip fascinating and you are likely to see hippos, elephant, buffaloes, Giraffes among others before you reach your hotel. A nature walk to the top of the falls enables you to get a first-hand experience of seeing a calm and peaceful River Nile turning into an aggressive and terribly dangerous fall at a point where this Africa’s longest river is forced deep down about 45m through a narrow gap in the rock (only 7 meters wide).
Later in the evening, go for dinner and superb overnight treats at Paraa Safari Lodge or Sambiya River lodge or Red Chili Camp.

Day 2: Game Drive and Launch trip:
You will start your day by enjoying an early morning cup of coffee or African tea and then go for a morning game drive on the Northern bank of the Mighty River Nile. This life experience tour offers you fantastic views of Elephants, Buffaloes, Giraffes, Hartebeests, Bushbucks, lions and a variety of bird species. You will return to your Hotel for lunch and in the afternoon, proceed for a boat trip on the serene Victoria Nile, upstream, to the base of the falls. This launch offers views of lots of hippos, crocodiles, elephants, Giraffes, leopards, hyenas, Oribis, lions, Bushbucks and varieties of birds. Generally the trip blesses you with abundant bird life, beautiful sceneries and photographic opportunities. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3:  A 9 hour drive from Murchison falls to Kibale National Park
After breakfast, start your trip heading southwest for Fort portal town. This journey takes you through the Albertine Escarpment of the western arm of the Great East African Rift Valley and en route beautiful scenery of traditional homesteads and farms. You will have lunch en route and arrive late afternoon. After checking in at your hotel, your guide can take you for a cultural visit to the Royal palace of Toro or you can opt to go on a guided village walk to see the Mahoma Water fall, crater rims, local alcohol brewing, large and smallholder farms with banana plantations, coffee terraces, plots of cassava, groundnuts, sorghum and millet gardens.
You will then go to have a yummy Dinner and overnight at Primate Lodge or Mountains of the Moon Hotel.

Day 4: A full day Chimpanzee tracking and guided-village walk.
After your early morning breakfast, you will drive to the park headquarters to be briefed by the guide who will provide hints and rules to observe while on the chimpanzee trek. For instance, these primates can be located by listening for their pant-hooting calls. You will then follow the sound while enjoying views of other primates like Black and White Colobus monkeys, Black faced Red Colobus, Red Tailed Monkeys, Mangabeys, Olive Baboons, Bushbabies plus varieties of birds, including the Great Blue Turaco. Later in the evening you can opt for a guided village walk or stay and relax at your Hotel. Return to your Hotel for dinner and overnight. 

Day 5: Morning drive to Queen Elizabeth National park.
After breakfast drive to Semuliki National Park. You will satisfy your eyes with the park’s fantastic scenery, hot springs, forest jungle walk, birding, primates viewing and River Semuliki meanders. ‘Mungu ni mkubwa’ is a magnificent spot on the road for the scenic views of the meandering Semuliki River, the tropical rain forests extending up to Ituri forest in DRC, and the fuming hot springs. Two Hot springs situated in a tract of hot mineral encrusted swampland is rich in visible birds, insects and mammalian life. This place provides an excellent sight for red-billed dwarf horn bill, white-crested hornbill and massive black-casqued wattled hornbill.
You can choose to visit the Bambuti community (pygmies living in Uganda) before going for a picnic lunch at the Sempaya hot springs. Later in the afternoon drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park and while on your trip enjoy an en route fantastic view of the Rwenzori Mountain range. Lots of wild game such as elephants, Lions, Leopards, Hyenas, Buffaloes, Waterbucks, Uganda Kobs and Warthogs will welcome to Queen Elizabeth National Park. As you arrive in the evening your dinner will be ready and you will have a serene overnight at Mweya Safari lodge or Jacana Safari Lodge.

Day 6:  A full day with wild game and pleasurable nature views.
The big cats can easily be seen on their active daily hunts very early in the morning. You therefore have to wake up at dawn (waking up with the birds as locally said). After enjoying an early morning cup of coffee or African tea, you will embark on this morning drive through the Kasenyi plains and the Mweya peninsula to search for animals like, leopards, Buffaloes, elephants, Lions, Uganda Kobs, bushbucks, bush pigs, forest hogs, jackals and many more. You will have to first retreat from the game drive to have a late breakfast and lunch at your lodge. A launch cruise on the Kazinga channel will then follow after your lunch and a brief repose. While on this boat trip look out for game like Buffaloes, hippos, and many birds including the European migrant birds -the terns and gulls - that usually congregate here in large flocks.
Relax, have a luscious dinner and spend a serene overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge or at Jacana Safari Lodge.

Day 7:  9 Hour drive to Bwindi NP through the unique western rift valley escarpment including; Chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura Wildlife Reserve.
Wake up early and have breakfast as you prepare to start this journey that will see you through the unique western rift valley escarpment. You will enormously enjoy an en route game drive in Ishasha sector of the Queen Elizabeth Park as you search for tree climbing lions, varieties of monkeys, baboons as well as many species of plants and birds. You will arrive in the evening and check in at your Lodge (Buhoma Community Bandas or Gorilla resort Camp).

Day 8: Gorilla tracking and an afternoon optional nature walk.
Gorrilla tracking time: 6-9 Hours in the jungle.
Have your breakfast early morning and get ready for briefing by your guides at 9:00 am. At the park headquarters, guides will brief you before setting off to the forest in search for the gorillas. The search for these gorillas is quite tiresome and depending on their movement on that particular day, this activity may take you up to 6 or 9 hours yet on a good day, you can find them in a couple of hours.
The trail involves climbing up and down through steep rocks. It is vital that you carry a packed lunch, drinking water and a rain jacket.  The steep tracks are muddy in the rain season requiring that you wear comfortable boots or jungle shoes.   If jungle sounds make you uncomfortable, put on ear plugs.  You may also need walking sticks which will be provided by the park rangers.
Whatever the circumstances of the day, you will be delighted by the experience of the encounter with these endangered species and soon you will forget the strain of the search when you finally get fascinated at the sight of these giant primates. You will retire back to your Gorilla Resort Hotel for Dinner and a comfortable night as you ponder about these gifts of nature.

Day 9: A 9 Hour drive to Kampala with lunch en route.
After your breakfast you will start you journey back to Kampala having lunch en route in Mbarara, make a stopover at the equator or at Mpambire drum village to buy a souvenir and proceed to have an evening entertainment and overnight at your Hotel in Kampala.
