Queen Elizabeth National Park

Location: South Western part of Uganda
Size: 1,978 Sq. km

Habitat:

  • The blend of savannah and equatorial features make Queen Elizabeth NP to be known as the highest biodiversity conservation game reserve in the world,
  •  Lies in the rift valley floor stretching between Lakes Edward and George,
  • Mweya Peninsula,

  • The Kyambura gorge,

Major attractions:

  • 100+ mammal species including big game, tree climbing lions, big herds of elephants, hippos, giant forest hogs and Uganda Kobs.

  • Lush vegetation varying from open savannah to rainforest, from dense papyrus swamps and brooding crater lakes to the vastness of Lake Edward,
  • Diverse habitats, including the Ishasha River, savannah woodland, and the marshy Lake Edward,

Accessibility

  • By road: 6-7 hours drive from Kampala via Mbarara.
  • By air: arrange a private charter flight from Entebbe international airport to Kasese airstrip.

 

Safari activities

  • Game drives:

You can enjoy game drives to see big game in the typical African savannah including including elephants, Lions, Leopards, Hyenas, Buffaloes, Waterbucks, Uganda Kobs and Warthogs. Early morning and in the evening is the best timing for these game drives on the various trails in the park.

  • Bird watching:

Queen Elizabeth National Park is a haven for visitors interested in bird watching due to the vast bird species. You will have a fantastic exposure to a large number of water birds on The Kazinga channel including; White-faced Whistling and Knob-billed Ducks, the Common Squacco Heron, Great and Long-tailed Cormorants, Great-white and Pink-backed Pelicans, African Jacana, African open-billed Stork, African Fish Eagle, Water Thick-knee, Spur-winged and African Wattled Plovers, Malachite and Pied kingfishers, Black Crake, Yellow backed Weavers and Swamp flycatchers. 

  • Launch trips;

The 34km Kazinga channel cruise enables you to view different animals including large crowds of Hippo and solitary Buffaloes, elephants, reptiles like Crocodiles and Lizards, water birds like Pelicans, Egyptian goose, Saddle-billed Stork, African Fish Eagles, African Jacana and Kingfishers. 

  • Guided Nature Walks;

Take a guided nature walk in the nearby Maramagambo Forest  to see the Blue Lake, the Hunters Cave, the Bat Cave and different tree species including medicinal species.

  • Chimpanzee tracking;

The Kyambura Wildlife Reserve on the eastern part of the park offers you an amazing Chimpanzee tracking experience as well as a view of a number of other primates such as Black and White Colobus Monkeys, Red-tailed Monkeys, Olive Baboons, as well as forest birds such as Hornbills, Kingfishers and Sunbirds.
