Lake Mburo National Park
Location: Southern Uganda, 230 km along Kampala - Mbarara highway.
Size: 260 sq km.
Habitat: Sculptured landscape with rolling grassy hills and tranquil lake shores has a varied mosaic of habitats forest galleries, seasonal and permanent swamps and rich acacia wood valleys which all support a wealth of wildlife.
Major attractions:
- Best place in the country to see the gigantic eland antelope, zebras in big numbers, topi, impala, and several acacia-associated birds, bill storks are unique to this park of all Uganda’s parks.
- One of Uganda’s only two Parks with an extensive area of wetland, aquatic and land park attractions.
Other attractions:
- Lots of wild game such as Warthogs, Uganda Kobs, Buffaloes, and other savannah animals, 300+ birds and a variety of plant species.
- Lakes and aquatic attractions like hippos, crocodiles and a variety of water birds and plants.
Accessibility
By road: 5-6 hours drive from Kampala including a stop at the equator and an en route game drive.

Game Viewing
A game drive through the park will expose you to 65+ different species of mammals without missing Zebras, Impalas, Buffaloes, Topis, Elands, Roan antelopes, Hyenas, jackals and possibly leopards.
Guided Nature walks
You can also embark on different nature trails to walk through different parts of the park while admiring the scenery and animals seen on the trail. It must be a guided tour to ensure your safety. Rubanga forest trail enables you to learn about a variety of trees and birds, over 40 bird species have been recorded in this forest alone.
Boat cruises
Lake Mburo boat cruises features a diversity of animals and plant species including crocodiles, hippopotamuses and birds such as Cormorant, Black Crake, Heron, Pelicans, and Fish Eagle.
Fishing
In case fishing is an interesting activity for you, the five lakes in the park give you a great opportunity to get the pleasure of capturing varieties of live fish from water. Six species of fish can easily be caught in Lake Mburo including Tilapia, lung fish, mud fish and Haplochromes.
Salt Lick
This is the most interesting economic activity in Lake Mburo National Park. From a wooden platform visitors have got the chance to see at least 4 different species of animals at any one time as they lick the salty soil. This is done without the animal's conscience give that the wooden platform acts as a hideaway.
Birding
Lake Mburo National park is blessed with varieties of birds including wetland birds, savanna birds and forest birds. You will be delighted with these colourful birds. In the Rabongo forest there are five bird species of, which are found only in the forest, while the fringing swamps, lakes and wetlands poses over 60 specialist water birds.
